All these Banana Oatmeal Cookies are hands down the very best banana flavored cookie I've ever had. Not only are they moist and simmer for times, but they're unmistakably banana-y.

Banana may be one of these flavors that could get lost when you bake with it. It can be very delicate flavor. It always bums me out if that occurs, cause I really like the taste of banana. And thus does the hubs.

When great brewed banana treats come along, we go a little crazy for them.

These cookies make the list of banana items to go mad for. With no doubt.

And they are so moistthey melt in your mouth. In addition, using both oats and banana in them, they are basically healthy, correct? And perfect for breakfast!

Creating them is equally as easy as eating them.

You have the typical suspects -- butter, brown sugar, white sugar, an egg, vanilla and mashed bananas. You start with mixing all those lovely ingredients together.

I must warn you. The odor of the mixture -- with the banana -- is intoxicating. The hubs was in the kitchen which makes the dough with me (we made a deal that included him carbonated with me) and we both had to work hard to not put our faces, or even a straw, right in to it.

You then add all of the dry ingredients (which usually means you only use one bowl -- yay!) And combine it all together!

To bake themspoon out about a tablespoon of dough and produce a thick disc, as opposed to a ball. They spread a bit after baking, and therefore don't put them too close together. Bake them for about 10-12 minutes to get a nice, moist cookiecutter. So yummy!

1 other thing I love about this recipe is really where it came out.

My grandma (my dad's mother ) passed out in 2008. After I started draining a lot a couple of years back, my uncle gave me cookbook he'd had and didn't use. I have had it on my list to produce several her desserts since.

My father and I left her gaufrettes (a French cookie -- my great grandparents were French) a year or so ago. It was a convention for my grandmother to make them every Christmas! She also gave everyone a huge tin of these, which had been quite an effort with 6 sons.

I now know precisely how much of an accomplishment it had been! My goodness. She left them using a conventional gaufrette iron that goes over a open flame. My dad and I had them on the cooker. They cook very quickly and you have to be exact. Too little time and they sort of disintegrated to iron. Overly long and they burned into the iron and we all had to clean it out.

My father was minding the batter and removing the cookies, I was working the iron, the hubs was timing things. It required many attempts to get it right, but they were so great! I've attempted to make them on my own and it never works. I'd like to share the recipe, however, the dang irons are all so tough to discover. And pricey. Sooner or later, I'd like to just make a cookie cutter with the identical gaufrette flavor.

For now though, I am sharing these biscuits. I don't believe I ever had them made them, but they are from her book.

It's such a fun recipe book to check through, also. There are many handwritten pages, clippings and paper recipes which were taped to the publication. I adore the way they used to compose recipes in the paper -- they'd the man who submitted it is name and adorable little tales. It's so enjoyable to browse ! What another time on the planet!

Anyways, I don't really know where this recipe originated from. The paper appears like it was on a flier from their square dance group or something (they were big to square dance ). It's definitely from West Virginia, where they dwelt.

In any event, I am so happy to finally talk about a recipe out of her book with you! I made a few adjustments to make them thicker and more puffier and they are delicious. There will be more to come out of her recipe book, but for the time being like the banana.

Banana Oatmeal Cookies


Yield: 34-36 COOKIES


3/4 cup salted butter, softened (I use imp source Challenge Butter)

1 cup brown sugarpacked

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup mashed bananas

1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 tsp ground cloves

2 tsp cornstarch


1. Mix together egg, brown sugar, egg, sugar, vanilla extract and mashed bananas until well combined.


3. Stir in vanilla.

4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

5. Flatten dough a little bit, into thick disks. They'll disperse a bit when baked.
